| The
Nephrology Nursing Journal publishes reviews of books, videotapes,
and/or computer software on topics of interest to our readers. The
topics may be directly or indirectly related to nephrology nursing. For
example, the topic may be related to hemodialysis, transplant,
peritoneal dialysis, pediatric nephrology, etc. or the topic may center
on aging, management, research, nursing case management, etc.
Items
are received from publishers and assigned by the Book and Media Review
Department editor to a member of the review panel. The assignment is
made based on the expressed areas of interest of the panel member. The
reviewer writes the review following specific guidelines. Once the
review is submitted, it is evaluated and necessary editorial changes
made. If revisions are required, the review is returned to the author
with recommendations. The author may keep the item that has been
reviewed. The following information is included with each review:
- Title of book
- Author’s name (no credentials needed)
- Edition number and publication date
- Publisher’s name and complete address
- Number of pages; soft or hard cover; price (if available)
If
the publication is also available on a computer disk, please include
this information directly under the number of pages, soft/hard cover,
and price. The review should be limited to 200-300 words and
double-spaced. It should include:
- The book’s stated purpose and identify the targeted readership (usually found in the preface or introduction).
- Summary (in 2-3 sentences) of the contents of the book.
- Comments on the book’s organization, format, and the use and quality of illustrations, photographs, and charts.
- Description of the major strengths and weaknesses as well as writing style and readability of the book.
- Identification of those readers most likely to benefit from the content presented.
- Reviewer’s name, credentials, title, organizational affiliation, city, state, and ANNA chapter membership affiliation.
The review should be positive in nature. If the book is not worthwhile
or contains major deficits, please return the book (unreviewed) to
Deborah Brooks. Your postage expenses will be reimbursed.
